   <description><![CDATA[<p>Still on Jaguar&rsquo;s wish list is an entry-level roadster once called the F-Type but now known internally as the XE.</p>

<p>The front-engine, rear-drive, $50,000 two-seater isn&rsquo;t approved for production, but Jaguar&rsquo;s Indian owner, Ratan Tata, continues to mention the model in interviews.</p>

<p>Engineers have at least arrived at a technical solution: The XE is expected to be developed as a variant of the next-generation aluminum XK. At one time, there was pressure from some within Jaguar to make the XE a variant of the steel-bodied XF, but going with an XK chassis means costs can be shared between the two models.</p>

<p><br />A pedestrian Fiat in the hallowed halls of the Ferrari museum in Maranello? Some Tifosi would cry blasphemy. <p>The exhibit could give Americans a deeper perspective on Italian cars, which have come into the spotlight recently with the Chrysler-Fiat alliance that&rsquo;s expected to bring Fiats and Alfa Romeos to the United States. </p>
<p>Five museums, including private showcases dedicated to Maserati and Fiat, are included on the tour.</p>
<p>An added incentive: Visitors dropping by one of the museums will get reduced-price admission at the others if they present a ticket stub. The exhibition runs through Oct. 31.</p>

<p>Volvo has extended its sporty R-Design range to include the XC60 compact off-roader. Taking place at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on the weekend of 1 and 2 August, the newly conceived Expo has already attracted over 40 manufacturers from across the globe.</p>
<p>And in a bid to stay as relevant to the modern motor industry as possible, the organisers have just announced a special environmental display, highlighting a range of eco-initiatives by Coventry City Council. </p>
<p>Over the next two years 110 electric vehicles will be trialled by the Council for the purpose of collecting data. And three of those will be on display to the public &ndash; a Smart EV, Mitsubishi iMIEV and a Tata Indica Vista EV.</p>
<p>Other attractions, apart from the feast of new metal, includes a concert featuring Motown singing group The Mysteries, a Gala Dinner Function and an automotive themed charity auction. </p>
<p>Auto Express has already thrown its support behind the show, which has been granted free use of the Ricoh Arena venue for this inaugural event &ndash; a sure sign that the motoring industry is clubbing together in difficult times. </p>

<p><br />Nissan has taken the wraps off its production-bound electric vehicle, named Leaf, that is plans to sell in Japan, the United States and Europe.</p>
<p>The Leaf seats five and measures 175 inches long--about the same size as a Versa sedan. It uses an 80-kilowatt AC electric motor and draws from a laminated lithium-ion battery pack--the same type of batteries used by cellular telephones and laptop computers. Nissan says the Leaf will have a driving range of 100 miles. The battery pack is mounted under the car's seats and floor.</p>
<p>Using a direct-current quick charger, Nissan says the Leaf's battery pack can be recharged up to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes. Recharging at home, with 200-volt AC service, will take less than 8 hours. Regenerative braking is also a key factor in extending the Leaf's range.</p>
<p>Nissan says the Leaf will be priced at about the same as a well-equipped C-segment vehicle--such as the Sentra--which points toward a sticker price somewhere near the $30,000 range.</p>
<p>Power-saving technologies include the use of light-emitting diodes for the headlamps, which are also shaped to direct airflow around the front door mirrors. Owners will be able to use their mobile phones to command the car's air conditioning to turn on.</p>
<p>Nissan plans to build the Leaf at its assembly plant in Smyrna, Tenn. It recently received funds from the U.S. government to build a battery-making operation in Tennessee.</p>
